The Storage Space Specification

Wine storage, whether it’s a simple rack, or fully functioning wine room, should be in keeping with the interiors of the surroundings. At Sorrells, we design wine storage spaces to compliment the rest of the property. A modern space, with a contemporary wine room boasts fantastic storage and an interior feature. This modern, contemporary property is set within the Cotswold countryside with waterfront views. The brief for the project was to create a wine storage space within the airy, open plan kitchen dining area. With a marble worktop and wooden flooring, the space already had dark hues. The wine cabinet was made from Ash, with a custom black stain to compliment the current interiors.

The Contemporary Design

More modern materials were included within the design to be in-keeping with the style of the property. Integral acrylic rods were used to create a bottle display system down one wall of the cabinet. The introduction of acrylic enabled additional storage to be created, with minimal obstruction to the view into the wine room. Within the contemporary wine room, a mixture of racks, and rustic storage boxes created the storage space for the client’s collection. An additional separate cabinet was built for the client’s glassware collection. Within the cabinet an area has been specially built and dedicated for the clients decanter collection.

Sorrells Custom Wine Rooms has been trading for over half a century as
makers of wine racks and wine storage spaces.

It all started in 1947 when two friends, working out of their lock-up in Putney, south London, were offered a lorry-load of liberated wine from France. The wine, being stored in dilapidated wine crates, was urgently in need of a safe haven. The two friends made their first wine racks and Sorrells was born.

Steady growth and a change of hands followed and the facility moved out of Putney to a hen shed in Arundel, West Sussex. It was in 2003 that Tim Lewis, wine lover and entrepreneur, bought the business, relocating it to its current home in Rayleigh, Essex.

Since then, the business has grown exponentially. Tim’s dedication and passion for all he does lies at the heart of the business. Constant innovation to serve his customers ensures Sorrells keeps up with current trends and growing demand.
